THE SUBNIVEAN AWARDS
The 2021-22 Subnivean Awards in fiction and poetry are now open. Seven finalists' work will be forwarded on to a final judge and published in the summer issue — where our two winners (one in fiction, one in poetry) will also be announced. Winners receive a blurb about their writing by the final judge who selected it, as well as $150 each. Finalists and winners will be invited to read at a virtual event featuring Daniel "Lemony Snicket" Handler. Catch the 2020-21 finalists and winners reading their work at this virtual soirée following a conversation between Daniel Handler, April Sinclair and Arisa White.
But what about general submissions?
Yes, we read those year-round.
The stories and poems that we are looking for need not fit into a particular mold; rather, we're seeking work that breaks the mold, grinds it into a fine powder, pours it in a pot of water and brings it to a boil, schleps it up a steep mountainside, drizzles it across the snow and lets it cool, there, into the desired shape.
PAST FINAL JUDGES:
The Subnivean Awards offer writers the chance to have their work read and blurbed by one of our luminary final judges, meet them at a virtual soiree and a bit of earn cold hard cash.
